Leonardo Bonucci: Juventus provokes fear in Champions League

Posted: 20 April 2017 Time: 15:04

Leonardo Bonucci says Juventus will have teams running scared ahead of the draw for the semi-finals of the Champions League.

The Old Lady were exceptional as they saw off Barcelona over two legs in the quarter-finals. A rampant 3-0 victory in the first leg was followed up by a professional and controlled 0-0 stalemate on Wednesday.

With the draw set to take place on Friday, Bonucci says Monaco, Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid will in all likelihood want to avoid the Serie A leaders.

Speaking after their impressive result, Bonucci explained: "It's not about who we don't want to face because none of the other teams want to face us.

"Juventus provokes fear in everyone else and now our objective is to reach the final."

He added: "We showed great unity and solidarity. We have belief in ourselves, because scoring three goals against Barcelona and keeping a clean sheet at the Nou Camp shows we are a great team. Now there are another two steps to go.

"This side deserves praise for how we approach every game, whether we're playing Barcelona or Pescara.

"This is another step for our growth and now every opponent will worry about facing Juventus."

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon feels it may be in his side's interest to avoid facing Atletico Madrid in the semi-finals.

Buffon believes Atleti may be their worst match-up because they are not challenging for their domestic league title like the other two are.

"Maybe it’s better to meet Monaco or Real, who will spend significant energy in the fight for the league," the 39-year-old told Mediaset Premium.

"They would rotate less, compared to Atletico, who have a more defined position [in the table] and can manage themselves."

Juve are gunning for a sixth consecutive league title but just a third European crown after winning twice, in 1985 and 1996. This is the second time in three years they have reached the semi-finals.
