Platinum Stars coach Cavin Johnson has confirmed they will release midfielder Kobamelo Kodisang for the FIFA under-20 World Cup despite their CAF schedule.
Stars qualified for the CAF Confederation Cup group stages after beating Ivorian club AS Tanda 2-0 at home to level the tie on aggregate, before advancing with a 5-4 penalty shootout victory at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium last Sunday.
Kodisang has been named in the preliminary Amajita squad announced by coach Thabo Senong for the World Cup finals in South Korea, which kicks off on May 20.
With the Confederation Cup group stage draw set to be conducted in Cairo next week Wednesday, the first round of fixtures are expected to commence on May 12.
Senong is already faced with challanges with key players Grant Margeman (Ajax Cape Town), Teboho Mokena, Fagrie Lakay (both SuperSport United), Reeve Frosler and Phakamani Mahlambi (both Bidvest Wits) all withdrawn from the upcoming camp due to club commitments.
However, Johnson has confirmed to KickOff.com that the club will not stand in the way of the 17-year-old star showcasing his talent on the world stage by retaining him for continental club duty.
"We are not going to hold onto the player. We will allow him to go and play in the World Cup," says the Dikwena mentor.
