Chippa United midfielder Buyani Sali looks to be out for the season after fracturing his right ankle in the 1-0 loss to Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday.
The pint-sized player suffered the blow in a challenge with Lorenzo Gordinho at Mbombela Stadium, and was replaced in the 31st minute by Tsharelo Bereng.
Chippa spokesman Luthando Zibeko has confirmed Sali is unlikely to make his return before the end of May.
"It [a scan] confirmed that he fractured his right ankle. He went for an X-ray immediately from the pitch, his first stop was hospital," Zibeko told KickOff.com.
"He went for an X-ray and it confirmed it was a fracture. So they put on the temporary plaster and yesterday they put on a permanent plaster. So he's going to be in that permanent plaster for a while.
"As it looks now, it's unlikely that he'll be back before the end of May."
Meanwhile, Chiefs coach Steve Komphela wished Sali well in his recovery.
"My parting shot, as soon as we came back from the first half we came across to Sali and Gordinho went to him, 'Shabba' [Siphiwe Tshabalala] went to him, 'Rama' [Ramahlwe Mphahlele] went to him, almost the whole team went to him as he was stretched off to the clinic or wherever," said Komphela.
"We say, on behalf of Kaizer Chiefs players, Gordinho, staff, supporters and all that, we wish him a speedy recovery. He's a hell of a great player, supporters enjoyed him.
"We hope to see him very soon back in the match so that he can come and help his team. We wish him a speedy recovery."
The Lady Frere-born Sali, who joined Chippa from Polokwane City in the 2013/14 season, has featured in 20 out of 24 league matches this campaign.
