Ramahlwe Mphahlele feels Kaizer Chiefs are well-equipped to fight for honours

Kaizer Chiefs fullback Ramahlwe Mphahlele feels his side are well-equipped for a strong run to the end of the season as they remain in the hunt for league and cup honours.

The Glamour Boys overcame league opponents Chippa United 1-0 over the weekend to go joint-top of the Absa Premiership log, a game in which the marauding defender was named man of the match.

“It was always going to be difficult to face a good team like Chippa United,” Mphahlele told his club’s website. “Chippa likes to play and we prefer to keep the ball as well.

“I am happy to be selected as the man of the match. It all boils down to teamwork.”

The win leaves Amakhosi well and truly in the title race despite their closest rivals having played less matches, with ‘Rama’ revelling in the positivity surrounding the Chiefs camp.

“We want to stay at the top with the chasing pack,” he said. “As you will remember, the last time we lost a competitive game was against Chippa. We have since been working hard on the mental aspect of our game. Our mind is filled with positivity and that helps us cope under pressure.”

The Bafana Bafana international then gave credit to the Amakhosi technical team, and feels the club are well-equipped for a successful run-in to the season’s end.

“Credit must go to our technical team,” he said. “They are working hard to help us with a positive mind-set. When we were experiencing a slump, we always knew that we would bounce back. We have a good squad and personnel to fight for honours.”

Chiefs’ next task is a Nedbank Cup quarter-final clash against reigning champions SupeSport United on Saturday evening.
