Kaizer Chiefs edged Chippa United 1-0 in an exciting Absa Premiership clash at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday.
George Lebese came off the bench to score the winning goal in the 85th minute after a game full of missed chances to send Amakhosi second on the log on goal difference.
Chiefs remain behind Cape Town City on goals scored despite their goal difference being level on plus 14 apiece.
Gustavo Paez led the line for Steve Komphela's side in the absence of the suspended Bernard Parker as Chiefs made just one change from their 2-0 win over Bloemfontein Celtic in midweek.
Dan Malesela, meanwhile, made no changes to his line-up from their 0-0 draw at home to Polokwane City.
It was an exciting affair that produced many opportunities but little in the way of quality shots to test the goalkeepers, with the majority of attempts ending up off target.
However, Lebese was the hero for Chiefs late in the second half as he received the ball from fellow substitute William Twala, cut quickly onto his favoured left foot and sent a sweet shot past Daniel Akpeyi in the Chilli Boys goal.
