Tsepo Masilela says Kaizer Chiefs team is hyped up amid their good form

Posted: 15 April 2017 Time: 14:50

Kaizer Chiefs defender Tsepo Masilela has welcomed their run of good form of late but reminds his teammates that humility is key as the season reaches its climax.

Amakhosi are currently on a 12-game unbeaten run in all competitions, and have won four of their last five games in the league and Nedbank Cup.

This evening, they will put their form on the line when they host Chippa United at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit – kick-off is set for 18h00.

Masilela says everyone is feeling good about their run of late, and believes they are currently "the team to beat" in the PSL.

“We are in a good space at the moment,” Masilela told his club's website. "It’s a nice feeling to be in this kind of form.

"The challenge, however, is to maintain this and to know that we are the team to beat.

“The confidence is sky high in the camp, but the dressing room talk is clear – to remain humble and continue with the attitude of one game at a time.”

The 31-year-old full-back has managed just 10 league appearances this season, as he battles for a place with Sibusiso Khumalo, but insists he has been working hard to improve the key aspects of his game.

“I try to keep it simple, focusing on my defensive role. I prefer to be a team player. And, one thing about our team is that we love this game and we want to make our supporters happy,” he said.

“I practice a lot on finishing, however, I’m not too worried about scoring. My role is to defend and to supply our strikers with the crosses or passes to score.”

The Glamour Boys will be without their top marksman Bernard Parker, who is suspended for this evening's encounter after an accumulation of four yellow cards.

We miss every player who didn’t make the squad to go the camp," added the former Bafana Bafana defender.

"We are a united bunch of players. Parker has been doing well, but in his absence we will have someone else who will be capable to do the job upfront. On the other hand, of course, we will miss his experience and intelligence.”
