Ajax Cape Town coach Stanley Menzo says he can’t wait to field Toriq Losper following the attacking midfielder’s return from his long-term injury absence.
Losper suffered a knee injured in the Cape derby against rivals Cape Town City on 23 September, the last of his two appearances for the Urban Warriors so far this season.
The 25-year-old is however back in full training with Ajax, and Menzo hopes to call on his returning talent soon, having been impressed by the player in training.
“It’s very good that he’s back in training, as he brings that extra spirit in his behaviour and attitude on the pitch,” Menzo told reporters. “But we have to be very careful with him – he was out for six, seven months, and he can’t just come back into the team.
“I’d like to use him immediately, but we have to take care – it’s not he’s come back after the flu or something, it’s a serious injury! But I’m definitely going to be using him, as he gives something extra in the team.”
Menzo then spoke about Zambian duo Rodrick Kabwe and Aubrey Funga - both of whom were signed in the January transfer window – with both imports having scored their first goal for the club in recent matches.
“It’s not easy when you come into a team that’s not doing well and fit in,” the coach said of the duo. “But they have been fighting, and do their job at training. They have been accepted into the group, but we need to keep winning to also give them a boost and help them get more belief to play and win games.”
Ajax will look to follow up their first win of 2017 against Highlands Park on Wednesday with a positive result against Golden Arrows this afternoon.
