Kjell Jonevret cautiously optimistic after Orlando Pirates' wins over Free State Stars and Maritzburg

Orlando Pirates coach Kjell Jonevret says it's too early to tell whether the team has turned the corner after recording back-to-back victories for the first time this year.

READ: Jonevret focused on league points

Pirates thumped Free State Stars 4-1 in the Nedbank Cup last-16 on the weekend, gaining revenge from a 3-2 defeat to Ea Lla Koto the week before.

Jonevret's side then beat nine-man Maritzburg United 2-0 last night to snap a 12-game winless run in the league and rise to ninth in the standings with eight matches left.

"I think the players, after we lost the game against Free State Stars, I think they at least know how to play as a unit and go out there and play good games and have a chance to win," said Jonevret after registering his first league victory as Bucs coach since his arrival at Mayfair in February.

"We were a little all over in the beginning but I think we've found the recipe of that they know what to do.

"But if we can do that every week it'll be better. But it's difficult to say [if Bucs have turned the corner]. At least right now, I hope that the players feel that we are happy again, but it's difficult to say [if Bucs have turned the corner].

"They have been tough games for us, we played many of the top teams and now we are playing teams around us," added the Swede.

The Sea Robbers next visit relegation-threatened Highlands Park at Makhulong Stadium on Saturday (20h15).
