Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt was pleased with his side’s 3-0 win over Golden Arrows but played down any chance of a Goal of the Month award for Mogakolodi Ngele.
Ngele left Nkosigiphile Gumede rooted to the turf in the Arrows goal with a trademark long-range strike that swerved into the back of the net from 30 yards out.
Hunt, who was delighted with his team’s application to secure three points and move back to the top of the Absa Premiership table, said on SuperSport TV after the match that a player from Wits will never win an award like that.
“There’s no easy game, especially when it comes to this time of the season. We had to really work hard for this tonight,” he said.
“I thought we were excellent in the first half. Shape was good, we played well and created three unbelievable chances. Gaba [Mhango] had an unbelievable chance in the first half but he kept working…
“And we scored a goal … not of the month … well, we’ll never win Goal of the Month, you know that … so, Goal of the Year, unbelievable goal.”
Pressed on what he meant by saying Wits will never win such an award, he added: “No, not us, not our club, you know how it works.”
Hunt also confirmed that substituted midfielder Thabang Monare sustained a hamstring problem, adding to a lengthy injury list.
