Chippa United coach Dan Malesela has faith injuries to key personnel will not derail his side's Nedbank Cup ambitions in today's last-16 clash with Polokwane City.
Xolani Mdaki, Mpho Mvelase and Bafana Bafana fullback Diamond Thopola have been ruled out of the match with knocks, while Chippa's top scorer Lerato Manzini is suspended after getting sent off in the 4-1 league loss to log leaders Cape Town City on Monday.
“I see the cup game as a relief from the league where we have not been doing well," Malesela is quoted as saying on his club's website.
“It is an opportunity for us to correct a few shortcomings and pick up confidence.
“We want to give a real go in the Nedbank Cup. I have said in the past that this specific cup is close to my heart, and we will do all we can to go far as possible."
'Dance' added: “We have Mdaki, Mvelase, Thopola out due to injury and Manzini who is suspended. This is a concern for us, but it is an opportunity for other players to raise their hands.
“We have options upfront, it is at the back where we are a bit affected.”
Kick-off is at 15h00 at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth.
The Chilli Boys are 10th in the Absa Premiership standings with 23 points from 22 games - four points shy of seventh-placed City.
