Maritzburg United chairman Farook Kadodia has confirmed that the club has received an offer for Deolin Mekoa from PSL and African champions Mamelodi Sundowns.
KickOff.com last month reported that Sundowns were eyeing Mekoa following the departure of left-footed winger Keagan Dolly to Montpellier in January.
Kadodia is seemingly open to doing business provided a deal suits all parties.
"I think there are lot of speculations. When you do a deal a player and both clubs have to sit together in this situation," says Kadodia.
"Sundowns is the only club that showed a serious interest in the player and we need to basically sit together with the player and Sundowns to see if he's happy of going and how we can do this deal.
"But there's nothing that has been finalised with the player and the club and myself.
"We have a firm offer from Sundowns and nothing has been finalised as yet until the player, ourselves and Sundowns [sit] together and then we can say it is sorted out."
Kadodia has lost key players in the past due to financial pressures, like when Rudolf Bester moved to Orlando Pirates and Cuthbert Malajila and Musa Nyatama left for Mamelodi Sundowns.
Kadodia feels Mekoa, who was promoted to the first team in 2014/15, needs to consider his future carefully as he's not the finished article yet.
"I firmly believe that Deolin needs a lot more preparation and I think Maritzburg were offering him that, which is very important," he adds.
"I don't see the need for urgency unless Sundowns do what they did previously with Musa Nyatama where they want to sign the player and send him back to Maritzburg. I don't know, I can't comment about that.
"But, as I said, the thing is that I'd like to guide Deolin and he's got a long future ahead of him, but I don't think he's the finished product yet for Sundowns."
