Mamelodi Sundowns star Percy Tau has credited becoming a team player for his ascent in South African football.
Tau received his latest accolade on Wednesday by winning the Absa Premiership Goal of the Month award for December thanks to a fine header against Free State Stars. “I remember the goal… it was against Free State,” said Tau on receiving his prize.
The 22-year-old was named man of the match in Bafana Bafana's goalless draw with Angola the night before, while he netted his first international goal in the 3-1 win over Guinea-Bissau this past weekend.
Tau earned Bafana recognition following a stellar campaign for Sundowns, having bagged nine goals and provided 12 assists for the PSL and African champions in all competitions.
The speedy attacker is aware his responsibilities have increased as his profile has grown.
"It goes back to hard work and the support I get from my teammates; everything that I do it's part of the team and it's part of the team structure," said Tau.
"I tried to be a team player, so this is the new Percy; he has a responsibility… a bigger responsibility than before."
