Orlando Pirates defender Marc van Heerden acknowledges what a huge responsibility it is playing for the Soweto giants but reveals that he is settling in well at the club.
Van Heerden today was given his award at the Premier Soccer League (PSL) offices after winning the Absa Premiership Goal of the Month for August/September 2016.
The goal that won the defender the award was his strike while still playing for Chippa United and it was against Baroka FC.
“I still remember that goal… it was a free-kick and I put it on the top of the left corner,” Van Heerden told the media at the PSL offices.
Van Heerden says coming back to Johannesburg is not a big deal as he was raised in the City of Gold.
“I was born and raised in Joburg, so I've come back home after 10 years and it's treating me well so far,” he said.
“I’ve had a great response from the players and the people behind the scenes and playing for Pirates is a massive responsibility and it’s a great honour. I’m grateful to the Lord above and everyone who has given me the opportunity.”
