Brian Baloyi expecting Kaizer Chiefs-Mamelodi Sundowns thriller

Posted: 27 March 2017 Time: 19:16

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper coach Brian Baloyi feels his side’s crunch clash against Mamelodi Sundowns is as big as the hype surrounding the Soweto Derby, and is fully aware of what is at stake.

Amakhosi host the reigning league champions on Saturday sitting two points above their rivals in fourth place on the log, yet have played four games more, and with both clubs gunning for a successful league finish, ‘Spiderman’ feels the encounter has a Soweto Derby feel to it.

“The Soweto Derby is still seen as the greatest game of the season, but I feel that, on paper, games against Sundowns are now huge as well, because often a league title or a cup is at play,” he is quoted as saying on the club’s website.

Having played for both teams, Baloyi described the feeling of turning out for each PSL giant.

“There is this winning culture at the Chiefs,” he said. “And, as a Glamour Boy, everywhere you go, people recognise you. Also, independent whether the team plays at home or away, the stadium is always full. The Amakhosi supporters are amazing. It’s a special feeling they give you, which is difficult to explain in words.

“Sundowns, meanwhile, have excellent support in Tshwane, but have much less supporters outside the capital.”

Baloyi is expecting a thrilling encounter on Saturday evening, and hopes the fans will fill up FNB Stadium for the spectacle.

“Chiefs and Sundowns are both vying for the league title,” he said.“It will be a game of immense importance with much at stake. I can’t wait for the match to kick off. It promises to be a thriller and I expect our fans to turn up in numbers to support the team.”

Kick-off is scheduled for 20h15.
