Harold Legodi hopes to make a lasting impact on Orlando Pirates youth development

Orlando Pirates assistant coach Harold Legodi is working closely with the club's development teams and hopes to see more young talents coming through to the first team.

Legodi joined the Buccaneers upon the arrival of head coach Kjell Jonevret just over a month ago, and has opened up about his experience at the club thus far.

'Jazzy Queen' serves as one of two assistant coaches alongside Benson Mhlongo, and has seen the team win one game in four, but has yet to taste defeat.

“Overall though the experience has been good, the players have been responding well," Legodi told Pirates' official website.

"The unfortunate part of it is that we drew three games but at least we got our first win in the Nedbank Cup and a good one at that, so hopefully going forward we will start playing well.”

The founding member of renowned Africa Sport Youth Development Academy, Legodi has played a significant role in the emergence of current Bucs stars such as Mpho Makola, Patrick Phungwayo and Oupa Manyisa, among others.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns assistant coach, though, says he remains "passionate" about youth and will keep a keen eye on nurturing young talent from within the club.

“I remain passionate about promoting young players and nurturing young players from development to a professional level, because they are mostly coachable," he added.

"Their success is proof of the work one has put in over the years, that at some points they will reap the benefits of having gotten involved in developmental football.

“I have watched our MultiChoice Diski Challenge team and I have been impressed with Yusuf [Maart]. Obviously, we still need to work on him to get the best out of him but he is getting there.

“The club has invested so much money in its youth development program. It then becomes incumbent upon us as coaches to promote these players and hopefully it’s not only Yusuf but many more players that will come through the ranks.”
