Manuel Neuer withdraws from German squad

Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has withdrawn from the Germany squad to face England in a friendly and Azerbaijan in a 2018 Group C World Cup qualifier.

Die Mannschaft face the Three Lions on Wednesday in Dortmund before taking on Milli on Sunday in Baku. However, it has been confirmed that their talismanic keeper will be out due to a calf injury.

Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Kevin Trapp has instead been called up to act as cover to Bayer Leverkusen's Bernd Leno and Barcelona's Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Meanwhile, it is yet to be confirmed as to the severity of Neuer's injury and for how long he could be ruled out for club and country. The German Football Association said: "The 30-year-old will now be treated at his club, Bayern."

It should not come as a huge blow as the world champions currently lead Group C comfortably having picked up four wins in four games without conceding a single goal.
