Maritzburg United coach Roger de Sa talks of top-eight scramble

Maritzburg United coach Roger de Sa believes there is going to be a scramble for the last three places into the top eight.
Though Maritzburg have picked up just four points from a possible 18 this year they remain four points behind sixth-placed Polokwane City.
That points gap in the bracket of teams below the title-chasing pack of five is the reason why De Sa has identified a window of opportunity.
“We want to sneak into the top eight because there are three positions still available for the taking on the standings,” says De Sa.
“All that we need in the last third of the season is a good run of results as early as possible so that we are able to secure our place. We are in the bracket of teams that is interested in finishing in the top eight and so that is what we will be playing for through the last stretch of the season. This target means we still have so much to play for just like everyone else who needs points for their own reasons,” he explains.
A glance at the standings shows that Polokwane City – on 27 points and in sixth position – are just five points ahead of 12th-placed Ajax Cape Town which essentially means that two games can change the order within that group of teams falling in between those positions.
De Sa joined Maritzburg at the beginning of the year and says the players are also keen on the challenge ahead of them.
“The players are up for the challenge which we will have a lot to play for in the remaining games,” he adds.
Maritzburg lost 1-0 to Highlands Park in Tembisa on Sunday.
