Kaizer Chiefs defender Daniel Cardoso is backing Italian striker Gustavo Paez to be a big success at Amakhosi this season.

Paez this month got his first goal in the famous black and gold colours since joining Amakhosi in the January transfer window, netting in the 3-0 Nedbank Cup last-32 victory over Stellenbosch FC in Cape Town last weekend.

The 26-year-old forward is again expected to lead the line for Steve Komphela's side when they take on Baroka FC in an Absa Premiership encounter in Limpopo tomorrow.

And Cardoso believes that Paez has all the attributes necessary to become one of the top strikers in the country.

"I am happy for the boy [Paez]. Coming all the way from Venezuela and trying to get into the starting 11,” Cardoso tells KickOff.com.

"He actually scored at the weekend. I am very happy for him. He is doing well at the moment. He is adapting well to the South African football and lifestyle. I believe he is going to be one of the best strikers in South Africa.”

Cardoso has been in and out of the starting lineup at Naturena since joining the club from Free State Stars in July 2015, but he is committed to fighting for his place at the club.

"It is always great to have healthy competition. It keeps you on your toes. It will make me a better player,” he adds.

”[Erick] Mathoho and [Lorenzo] Gordinho just got a call-up. That will make me work even harder. I want to stay as a regular player and I will keep pushing harder,” concludes Cardoso.
