Stellenbosch FC head coach Sammy Troughton says theu are working hard to ensure new striker Mame Niang's paperwork is ready before Sunday's crunch NFD encounter against Jomo Cosmos.

The lanky Senegalese striker only arrived at the club on Tuesday this week, where he has penned a short-term deal until the end of the season.

However, the former Mamelodi Sundowns forward is now racing against the clock to be available for this weekend's vital league clash away to Cosmos, with Stellenbosch able to go second with a victory, provided other results also go their way.

"We are busy with his [Niang's] documents; permits and so on. He has signed for until the end of the season," Troughton tells

"We are hoping he is going to be available for Sunday. There can be hiccups with these things [work permits]."

Troughton says he had been keen on luring the striker to come down to Cape Town for some time, but only managed to convince him recently.

"We've been negotiating for a while now but he only came on Tuesday. Me and Steve Barker have previously worked with him at Tuks so we know what type of player he is, we know how to use him."

Stellenbosch are fourth on the NFD table, one point above Cosmos and two points adrift of the promotion play-off spot. The two sides will lock horns at Olen Park on Sunday at 15h30.
