AmaZulu keeper Sage Stephens eagerly anticipates Nedbank Cup tie at PSL side Platinum Stars

AmaZulu goalkeeper Sage Stevens says the side are relishing the challenge of facing Premiership side Platinum Stars in the Nedbank Cup last-32.

Usuthu make the trip to the Moruleng Stadium this evening [19h30 kick-off] on the back of one win and two draws in their last three NFD outings to sit sixth in the standings and only four points adrift of the play-off spot.

The Durbanites will now get the chance to test their mettle against top-tier opposition in Dikwena, who are currently in the top eight of the Absa Premiership, with a place in the Ke Yona last-16 awaits the winner of tonight's clash.

“It [Platinum Stars] is a good team to play, and we wany to play tougher opposition so I think the coach and management will be very happy,” Stevens tells KickOff.com.

Stevens adds that playing in the North West will be tough for them, due to both the long trip and the soaring temperatures in the province.

“Playing away is tough especially playing in the North West. It’s a long trip for us and it’s tremendously hot there and there are a lot of things we need to take into consideration, but it doesn’t mean we prepare any differently for the game,” Stevens says.

“Our main focus is to get promoted, but we have got a good enough squad to play in two competitions [NFD and Nedbank Cup] and to compete well; so I don’t think we are going to take the competition lightly. We will put out the best team that the coach selected and trusts to do the job.”

AmaZulu will be hoping to better their 2010 performance in the Nedbank Cup, which saw them make it to that year's final, only to lose to Bidvest Wits 3-0.
