Sangweni aims to avoid banana skin

Chippa United captain Thamsanqa Sangweni feels his side are due a deep run in the Nedbank Cup ahead of tonight's clash against NFD side Witbank Spurs.
The Chilli Boys will host Spurs at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in the last-32 fully aware they have failed to progress past this stage of the tournament in the last two season.
Adding to their cup woes is the fact Chippa lost to KZN ABC Motsepe League side Natal FC on penalties two years ago, before going down to NFD champions Baroka FC last term.
Sangweni knows all about going deep in this competition, having made the final with AmaZulu in 2010, only to lose 3-0 to Bidvest Wits at FNB stadium.
However, the 27-year-old says it is high time that his team roll up their sleeves and grind their way through to the last-16.
"The plan is obviously [to progress], as you said we have never passed the next round, so we need to make sure that we win this game and take it from there," said Sangweni.
"However, it'll be tough because we are playing an NFD team and we don't know much about them, but I think we'll approach the game just like any other game that we play."
This year's tournament has already created shock exits for teams in the PSL, with Cape Town City and Ajax Cape Town both bowing out to ABC Motsepe League sides in the first round.
And Sangweni is hopeful of avoiding the same fate, as well as dodging a repeat of their own short-comings against lower-league opposition.
"I think everyone is aware of that," he added.
"Because I remember when we played a Vodacom team [ABC Motsepe League side] on the previous edition and they took us out, so I think this time we have to make sure that we win."
Kickoff time is 19h30.
