Siphiwe Tshabalala delighted to score 50 goals for Kaizer Chiefs

Siphiwe Tshabalala is optimistic Kaizer Chiefs can win the Nedbank Cup this season after netting his 50th goal for the club against Stellenbosch FC on Saturday.

‘Shabba’ wrote the number 50 on his wristband, so confident was he that he would reach the milestone by scoring against the NFD side, and so he did.

“I’m celebrating a milestone, 50 goals in the team, 10 years with the club as well so it’s another blessing and I’m truly thankful,” he said on SuperSport TV after the 3-0 win.

“I wrote it before the game and I was so determined that I’m going to get one. Thanks to my teammates and everyone for their support, past and present, and the journey continues.

“I wouldn’t have done it without the help of the guys, we’ve worked very hard and we’ve been doing well in the past six, seven games, but we can still do better. But we’ll take the confidence from the goals that we scored to the next game.”

Tshabalala feels the goals scored will give the team more confidence as they look at adding another Nedbank Cup title to the trophy cabinet at Naturena.

“We did well, we applied the basic principles of the game and were very professional, and I’m very happy we managed to score three goals, that was a confidence-booster but overall we did well as a collective,” he added.

“We have a good chance [to win it now] but in a cup game anywhere in football the more you win, the more you play well, the harder it gets. But I think if we are in the right frame of mind and keep working very hard as a collective we’ll get there, but it’s one game at a time.”
