Ajax Cape Town striker Nathan Paulse says their target in the Nedbank Cup this year is to reach the final like in 2015, but first they need to beat KwaDukuza United.
Ajax will start their campaign today against the ABC Motsepe League side at 15h00 at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium.
“If you want to go far in this cup you have to beat every single team you face. So irrespective of that we don’t know them, I’m sure for them it’s a big occasion,” Paulse tells KickOff.com.
“If we keep our minds on the job and just approach this game with a hunger and ambition to go as far as we can we can do well. So at the end of the day irrespective if you big or small, it's eleven against eleven. This is football and anything can happen, but all we have to do is do our job and focus.”
In 2015, Ajax lost 3-2 on penalties to Mamelodi Sundowns in the Nedbank Cup final and Paulse says they want to go as far as possible in this year’s competition.
“We can’t hide from the fact that coming to this game we are now the big team, so therefore we have to keep our standard high,” he says.
“We’ve been in the final two years ago and I’m sure players who were in the squad in that final still have that feeling of being in another final – and there’s no better feeling than walking out on the pitch on the final. So if we keep that in the back of our minds and have that hunger and ambition… I’m sure we will go far but this is the first obstacle so let’s see.”
