Thabang Monare is confident Bidvest Wits can come back with a positive result when they take on Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League this weekend.
Wits jetted out of the country today for Egypt to face Al Ahly in the first-leg of their Last 32 encounter on Saturday, where they enter as huge underdogs, having failed to make it past the group stages in the competition while Al Ahly are eight-time champions.
And while Monare says his team are aware of Al Ahly’s credentials in continental competition, having also won the CAF Confederation Cup in 2014, they are ready to give their best and return home with a positive result.
"We are not scared of them [Al Ahly], but we respect them as one of the biggest teams in Africa,” Monare tells KickOff.com.
"We are going there aware that we should be on our toes if we hope for a good result. Sundowns went there and came back with a result and that acts as an inspiration for us,” he added.
The former Jomo Cosmos midfielder says his club are not going to park the bus in Cairo, but will instead stick to their normal game plan, taking Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League capitulation against Barcelona as a stark lesson.
"We are going there to play our normal game. We saw what PSG did yesterday against Barcelona and we won't do that mistake of sitting back,” he added.
