Stellenbosch coach Sammy Troughton wary of Nedbank Cup opponents Kaizer Chiefs

Stellenbosch FC coach Sammy Troughton knows his side will need to be fully focused against in-form Nedbank Cup opponents Kaizer Chiefs, despite the league being their priority.
The National First Division side, who currently lie fourth in the standings, were pitted against the Soweto giants for their Last 32 showdown, and with Amakhosi unbeaten in their last eight matches, Troughton knows his side will have to be at their best.
“We were lucky to get a glamour tie – your either looking for a really big team, or a minnow, in a cup game,” the experienced coach tells KickOff.com. “There’ll obviously be publicity with it, and whatever happens, we don’t want to come out the game having let ourselves down.
“It could be an opportunity to get some confidence, but Chiefs are one of the form teams at the moment and are capable of giving you a bit of a smack if you don’t take them seriously.”
Sitting just one point off a promotion play-off berth, Troughton admits the league is Stellenbosch’s main focus, but will ensure his side will give their best effort against the Glamour Boys.
“People might not understand if I say I’d rather have the victory over Black Leopards over the weekend than Chiefs this weekend, because that’s the way it is… our bread and butter is Leopards, Cosmos and the rest of the league fixtures,” he says.
“It’s an exciting event, with people everywhere talking about it, but we have to keep calm. The Nedbank is a prestigious tournament, so we can’t belittle it and will give it our full go.”
The match is scheduled to take place at Athlone Stadium on Saturday evening, with kick-off set for 20h15.
