Thabo Mnyamane says he is holding hope of a Bafana Bafana call-up following an encouraging first season at SuperSport United.
Though the issue of the new senior national team coach remains hanging in the air SAFA will on Thursday announce the squad to play in two friendly matches on March 25 and 28 against Guinea Bissau and Angola.
For Mnyamane – who is in his first year at SuoperSport after joining from University of Pretoria – there is reason to believe that he could be part of the set-up.
“I think the selectors select the players based on merit and with the new coach coming hopefully he will apply the same criteria. For me it is always a privilege and an honour to don the national jersey so I will always look forward to playing for my country and represent it all the time,” he notes.
With six goals to his name this campaign the 24-year-old is aware he can still do more for coach Stuart Baxter.
“For my season I am just on par and I think I can do more as a player and do more for the team. I am not having a fantastic season like I had planned to have before at the start of the season but I think I am on par. I am not very pleased with the season but just content,” says Mnyamane.
Baxter adds that he has always known of Mnyamane's potential but feels there is still need for ‘upgrades’.
“When Thabo came to us we took him for his potential and some of that potential has been fulfilled. I think he is a quick learner, I think he has adapted well and has opened his game up a little bit since he came… he has to get a little bit more on how to dominate the defenders he has played against and create that little bit of more space for himself,” says Baxter.
