Platinum Stars hoisted themselves into the top-half of the standings as they carved out a 2-0 win over Golden Arrows at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Tuesday.
The hosts managed the first chance of the game after eight minutes as Sibusiso Msomi got sight of goal before letting fly, although he was unable to keep his effort on target as Nkosingiphile Gumede remained untroubled.
It wasn’t long after that Stars got their goal, Tintswalo Tshabalala slotting home left-footed after receiving the ball from Bongi Ntuli as the hosts went down the tunnel at half-time with the lead.
Lerato Lamola had a pop for Stars shortly after the restart but failed to find the target, before Bongi Ntuli’s effort was well blocked by the visiting defenders.
Substitute Benson Shilongo then came agonisingly close to adding a second for Stars with eight minutes remaining but saw his effort expertly turned away by goalkeeper Gumede.
The hosts finally put the game to bed two minutes from time as Ntuli got his goal, Shilongo proving his worth from the bench to set his teammate up, who smartly tucked home.
Henrico Botes then thought he’d added a third in second-half injury-time, but the goal was ruled out for offside.
