Rodgers: Chippa will play for Malesela

Bidvest Wits striker Eleazar Rodgers is wary of a misfiring Chippa United outfit, who will be eager to bring some joy to hospitalised coach Dan Malesela.
The teams will meet tonight at Sisa Dukashe Stadium in Mdantsane, East London (19h30 kick-off), with Wits looking to unseat Cape Town City at the summit.
Chippa, meanwhile, are without recovering mentor Malesela, who was admitted to hospital on Sunday complaining of chest pains. His assistant Mbuyiselo Sambu will oversee the hosts as they seek to snap a five-game winless run and break into the top half of the table.
“The one predictable thing about Chippa is their unpredictability at times,” Rodgers tells KickOff.com.
“I mean, they’ve played in three different home venues like the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, Buffalo Stadium and the Sisa Dukashe and that makes it very difficult and unpredictable for visiting teams.
“The fact that they struggling to win doesn’t make it any easier for us. They will be hurting and want to change things around as quickly as possible. Chippa will definitely want to change their fortunes for their coach who is currently in hospital. I also wish coach Malesela a speedy recovery.
“Given all this, I think it will be very foolish and unwise to undermine them. They are also a very good passing side and have the ability to beat any visiting team on the day, so we’ll have to be on top of our game,” says Rodgers, whose side are second in the standings with 37 points from 18 games - a point behind the Citizens with two matches in hand.
On a personal note the former Platinum Stars hitman aims to better the 12 goals he scored for Santos in the 2011/12 PSL season, having netted five times this campaign.
“My target was to better my tally of 12 I scored for Santos a few years ago, but it also wouldn’t be the end of the world if I don’t achieve this as long as the team can make history,” he adds.
