Atletico Madrid keep up Champions League charge with win over Valencia

Posted: 5 March 2017 Time: 20:25

Atletico Madrid’s star striker Antoine Griezmann was amongst the goals yet again in his side’s 3-0 victory over Valencia on Sunday.

It took just 10 minutes for the Frenchman to fire home the opener as he collected Koke’s pass, turned and fired goalwards into the bottom corner to make it 1-0.

Not to be outdone, compatriot Kevin Gameiro registered his name on the scoresheet three minutes into the second half, before Griezmann completed his well-earned brace seven minutes from time – his 11th goal of the season – to secure the comfortable 3-0 win.

The three points mean Atletico leapfrog Real Sociedad into fourth on the La Liga standings and back into Champions League qualifying contention, with third-placed Sevilla – in the last automatic qualifying spot – six points ahead.
