Dove Wome talks up Orlando Pirates team spirit ahead of Soweto Derby

Posted: 4 March 2017 Time: 12:55

Orlando Pirates’ January signing Dove Wome believes the injection of team spirit that has been brought in by new coach Kjell Jonevret will provide the needed energy to end their struggles.

Pirates are stuck in the mud with their well-documented horror run of form that is now standing at 10 games without victory as they head into the biggest match of the domestic calendar – against their archrivals in the Soweto Derby.

For a team that has sunk this low there is no doubting just how much the presence of a different voice in the dressing room will make for a team that has been shamed under two former coaches this season Muhsin Ertugral and Augusto Palacios.

Jonevret has since adopted the troubled ship, but Wome argues that the Swede tactician is the perfect man to help steady the waters aboard.

“He (Jonevret) has injected team spirit to the whole club,” says Wome.

“He has changed a lot of things for the players to play like a team and in the two weeks we have been with him all has gone on well. Going forward you have to expect team spirit in that we will defend together and attack together.

"We will be a team and what he has brought is for the team, it is not like individuals but team work.”

With the league title already out of his sight, as leaders Cape Town City stand 17 points away, the reality is that a top-eight finish is all The Bucs have to play for with 12 games to go.

The motivation for a top half finish is provided by the fact that they will also be keen to hold on to the record of being the only club to never finish below the halfway mark of the table.

“We are deep on the log and hopefully we come back strong and end up in at least top six and then win the cup," adds the Togolese international.

"For me I want to win a cup with every club that I play for so it is the Nedbank Cup left for us so that is what we will focus on along with moving up on the log.”
