Former Ajax Cape Town striker Russell Mwafulirwa's injury in Sweden has left Malawi Flames sweating ahead of their away March 29, 2010 World Cup qualifier against Ivory Coast.
Mwafulirwa injured his leg in a pre-season game for relegated Swedish side IFK Norrkoping early this week making him doubtful for the Ivory Coast match.
“I am meeting my doctors to ascertain the seriousness of the injury, otherwise I'm praying that I should recover in time for the Ivory Coast game,” Mwafulirwa told KickOff.com.
Mwafulirwa’s injury is afresh setback for Kinnah Phiri’s Flames as former Jomo Cosmos’ striker Esau Kanyenda, who is now with Russia’s KamAZ Naberezhnyye Chelny, is on a two-yellow card suspension.
Kanyenda will miss the match alongside former Thanda Royal Zulu defender James Sangala who is also suspended.
