Golden Arrows coach Clinton Larsen minus five players for KZN derby with Maritzburg United

Posted: 3 March 2017 Time: 15:38

Golden Arrows coach Clinton Larsen has confirmed he will be without five players for the KwaZulu-Natal derby with Maritzburg United at Princess Magogo Stadium tomorrow evening.

Nkanyiso Cele, Kagisho 'KG' Dikgacoi, Vuyani Ntanga, Danny Phiri and Lehlohonolo Nonyane are all out injured, with the latter recently undergoing a hernia operation after being sidelined in October with a groin problem.

However, Malawian striker Chiukepo Msowoya is available again after serving a two-match ban for a red card he received against SuperSport United.

"We still got Phiri out, KG out and we've got Cele and Ntanga out all injured," Larsen tells KickOff.com.

"Nonyane had his operation. It was a serious operation on his hernia so we are nursing him and it will probably be another couple of weeks.

"We are not going to rush him. Fortunately we do have [Nkosinathi] Mthiyane and we are still looking at a couple of weeks with him."

Meanwhile, Larsen, who along with his assistant Mandla Ncikazi previously managed Maritzburg, believes a victory on the weekend will ensure topflight survival.

"It's always tough playing against Maritzburg United home and away, and I think it'll be a very intense game," adds Larsen.

"Both teams want to win and both teams are looking to consolidate their place inside the top eight. So there's a lot to play for.

"I think a victory for either team will put to bed any fears of being drawn into the relegation fight. Any team getting up to 26/28 points will be basically be safe.

"Looking at the big picture there's a lot to play for, but I think trying to consolidate the top eight is key for both teams and that is what we are fighting for."

Abafana Bes' thende are seventh on the table with 24 points from 19 games - a point above the Team of Choice. The sides will meet at 18h00 in KwaMashu.
