Maritzburg United coach Roger de Sa says he expects sparks to fly when his team visits neighbours Golden Arrows on Saturday.
De Sa, who has experienced the Soweto Derby as well as Cape derbies, will get his first taste of a KwaZulu-Natal derby at Princess Magogo Stadium.
After winning his first game as Maritzburg coach this past weekend against Free State Stars, De Sa said he was not aware that KZN derbies are so intense after he was told of last year's event at the same venue.
“It's a tough one, and it’s a bit of a derby isn't? I know there have been some tough games in the past,” said De Sa, who expects Arrows to come out flying.
“So, look, there’ll be no difference this time again and I’m sure they’ll want to pummel us, they'll come out flying as well and they’ll also want to achieve things, so it will be a very difficult game.
“But I hear so [of tempers flying] and I heard quite a bit about it this week. Prior to that I didn’t know anything about it.
“I was always under the impression that derbies are from the same city, obviously not, and I’ve sort of looked up some history on it.”
When these two sides met in the first round at Harry Gwala Stadium the game finished 2-2 on a wet surface in Pietermaritzburg.
Kick-off is 18h00.
It is a weekend of several PSL derbies, the main one being at FNB Stadium, while Polokwane will also provide one of their own when Polokwane City host Baroka FC on Sunday afternoon.
