Cape Town City’s Lehlohonolo Majoro eager to take scoring form into Mamelodi Sundowns clash

Cape Town City striker Lehlohonolo Majoro says his brace over the weekend has him fired up ahead of his side’s high-profile clash against Mamelodi Sundowns on Friday.

‘Major’ found the back of the net twice in Sunday’s 3-0 win over Baroka FC, taking his season’s tally to five goals in 16 starts across all competitions, and the former Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs striker is hungry for more.

“It was very important for me to score, especially because I hadn’t been playing often due to injuries I have encountered this season,” he told reporters. “It is motivating, and makes me want to score even more and work even harder, and work with my teammates to score more goals for the club.”

Up next for the Citizens is a clash against title rivals Sundowns, with coach Eric Tinkler believing Friday’s result could play a crucial role in his side’s chase for a historic league winners’ medal in the newly-formed PSL club’s first top-flight season.

Having performed above expectations so far, Majoro feels league honours this season are well within Cape Town City’s reach.

“The motivation amongst us as players and the influence that the coach has on us really makes it a reality,” he said of the club’s title tilt. “It is possible that we can win the league, but it won’t be a walk in the park – we have to work hard for it.

“There are many teams out there doing their level best to stay up there but with the focus and good preparations we have bene doing throughout the season, I think it’s achievable. But we must remain humble and continue doing what we do, which is winning games.”

City will host Sundowns at Athlone Stadium, with kickoff set for 20h00.
