KickOff.com can confirm that former Free State Stars coach Giovanni Solinas has been appointed as the coach of Al-Faisaly in Saudi Arabia.
Solinas, who became the first Italian to coach in the PSL last season, surprisingly left Stars in January for a second time after he also resigned at the end of last season.
The 48-year-old, who was earlier linked with the Orlando Pirates job, guided Stars to two cup semi-finals in the Nedbank Cup last season and this year's Telkom Knockout Cup – both firsts in the club's history.
Solinas' agent Saheed Adebayo told this website in January that there was interest in his client abroad, and the Sassari-born coach has now confirmed that he's taken over at Al-Faisaly.
"Last week I signed for Al-Faisaly FC in Saudi Arabia," Solinas tells this website from Saudi Arabia.
"I hope in the future I can still go back to work in South Africa. I love the country."
The former ES Setif coach was in charge of 12 Free State Stars matches in all competitions this season, winning five, losing five and drawing two.
Solinas takes over from Croatian coach Tomaslav Ivkovic and his new club are currently in 11th-place in the 14-team Saudi Professional League, trailing leaders Al-Hilal by 29 points after 19 games.
