Match report - Absa Premiership: Mamelodi Sundowns vs Chippa United

Posted: 28 February 2017 Time: 18:41

The Absa Premiership match between Mamelodi Sundowns and Chippa United was halted in the 42nd minute after a power failure in the suburb around Loftus Stadium.

The match was delicately poised at 0-0 when the lights at the stadium went out.

After technicians looked at the problem, it was estimated the issue would take two hours to resolve and the Premier Soccer League announced the game had therefore been abandoned for the night.

The game must be played to completion within the next 48 hours, according to match commisioner Paulo Marques.

"The teams must agree on a new date, time and venue for the game to be played within the next 48 hours," Marques told SuperSportTV. "If they don't agree then it goes back to the league [PSL] and they will decide."

Sundowns and Chippa are scheduled to play their next league matches on Friday, both away against Cape Town City and Platinum Stars respectively.

Sundowns had looked the brighter side with Hlompho Kekana coming closest to a goal when his bullet header struck Chippa goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi without the Nigerian knowing much about it. A half a metre either side and it would have been a goal.

Wayne Sandilands in the Sundowns goal did make one fine save from Andile Mbenyane, but was largely untested in the game.
