Kaizer Chiefs winger Joseph ‘Tight’ Molangoane says experienced teammate Tsepo Masilela has advised him on how to approach Saturday's Soweto Derby with Orlando Pirates at FNB Stadium.
Molangoane, who made his Chiefs debut in December after eventually securing his release from Chippa United, has an idea of what to expect this weekend having warmed the Bucs bench in the marquee fixture in 2013/2014.
“Just sitting on the bench, I realised how big the Derby is,” Molangoane told his club's website. “I am really looking forward to Saturday’s match and, hopefully, I get the opportunity to play.”
He added: “Tsepo gave me some advice and insight on how to approach the match. We just want the maximum points.”
Molangoane has been a regular starter for the Glamour Boys under coach Steve Komphela, helping the title contenders win five games in a row before last weekend's 1-1 draw with Ajax Cape Town at Athlone Stadium.
The 28-year-old has stressed the collective comes before the individual.
“Every game I play for Chiefs is a great feeling. Soccer is a team sport. Of course, I want to contribute by scoring a goal or give an assist for a teammate to finish. However, in the end, it’s not about me. I am just part of the collective, we win and lose as a team.”
Molangoane is determined to match the expectations of the Amakhosi faithful.
“They are really amazing. It’s such an indescribable feeling to play in front of such big crowds, as recently happened in Durban, when we beat Highlands Park. The enthusiasm of our fans really pushes me to the next level. You don’t want to disappoint them. You want to win the game for the supporters, because they are really unbelievable.”
