Maritzburg's Farook Kadodia wants fair play in KwaZulu-Natal derby with Golden Arrows

Maritzburg United chairman Farook Kadodia says all he wants is a fair contest against KwaZulu-Natal rivals Golden Arrows at Princess Magogo Stadium on Sunday.

The teams played to a 2-2 draw at Harry Gwala Stadium in the reverse fixture in October last year, a relatively tame affair in comparison to a meeting in 2015/16.

In that game in April the sides drew 1-1, with then-Maritzburg coach Ernst Middendorp getting in a bust-up with Arrows assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi after the tie at Chatsworth Stadium. Middendorp also suggested Abafana Bes'thende chairperson and acting PSL CEO Mato Madlala had undue influence on the officials.

However, Kadodia, who was restrained by his staff during the dugout skirmish, insists they have no lingering issues with their neighbours.

"What happened to me and Arrows? I have nothing against Arrows," Kadodia tells KickOff.com.

"Nothing at all and we had no issues then after. We do our own thing. Like I'm saying the reality is that they're doing much better this year and we respect them.

"And for us now we are going to work hard and find a way to spring a surprise. But on paper Arrows are favourites, let's be honest about it.

"But the derby is more important and we know what to expect from such games.

"All we need is a good fair match, fair to both teams, with no intimidation from nobody. Whether it is the referee or whoever it is, it must have fair play."

The sides will face off again in the Nedbank Cup at the same venue on March 12.
