SuperSport United defender Clayton Daniels: Title race will go to the wire

Posted: 28 February 2017 Time: 09:39

SuperSport United defender Clayton Daniels suspects the title race will be decided on the final day of the season.

Log leaders SuperSport are vying for championship honours with Cape Town City, Bidvest Wits, Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns, who can go top tonight if they beat Chippa United at Loftus Versfeld.

Daniels tells KickOff.com: “Well, we want to stay in the pack until the last game. Things are so tight that I think the title will go down to the last day, so we’ll see how it goes.

"If I look at it points-wise I think we’re about five to six points off where we wanted to be at this stage."

Matsatsantsa next face 11th-placed Ajax Cape Town at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday, with Daniels expecting a test from his former employers.

"Ajax is a team that will always rise to the occasion," Daniels says. "This is also what makes them so unpredictable and so dangerous.

"They’ve shown clear signs of improvement and are not to be underestimated. It will be vital for us to remind ourselves of the importance of every game and Ajax is one of them."
