Chippa United's Menzi Masuku excited for Mamelodi Sundowns duel

Posted: 27 February 2017 Time: 15:20

Chippa United midfielder Menzi Masuku believes he is starting to regain his best form after a slow start to the season.

Masuku, who joined Chippa from Orlando Pirates in August on a three-year deal, is making his presence felt in the Eastern Cape, as evidenced by his man-of-the-match display in a 2-2 draw with Golden Arrows at Sisa Dukashe Stadium last week.

The ex-Buccaneers ace has started all four of United's games since the league resumed this year after the African Nations Cup in Gabon.

Masuku told the club's website: "I think I am peaking at the right time after being in and out of the team during the first half of the season. I feel good. My confidence is slowly getting back so is my match fitness. I am excited going about the upcoming games."

He added: "It took a bit of time for me to settle in Port Elizabeth despite scoring on my first game. I joined the team after the pre-season missing valuable time with both my teammates and the technical team. I am now starting to understand my teammates better, what the coach [Dan Malesela] expects from me and I am now settled at Chippa United. The break helped as I took time to reflect but also worked hard to return to my best. There is a long way to go still but I am getting there."

Meanwhile, Masuku is relishing tomorrow's duel with African champions Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld (19h30).

The Chilli Boys will be without suspended striker Rhulani Manzini, while Downs will be minus midfielder Tiyani Mabunda as well a number of injured stars such as goalkeeper Denis Onyango.

"Exciting game! It is always exciting to play Mamelodi Sundowns. The atmosphere is always electrifying against all the big teams and we expect the same at Loftus. I am looking forward to the game so are my teammates.

"We want to mix with the best in the league and maintain our top eight position so we must go to Pretoria with belief and fight for maximum points.

"The preparations have been going well and we are all excited about the game. We have put the game against Golden Arrows behind us and the focus now is on our next game."
