Ajax Cape Town striker Nathan Paulse is chomping at the bit ahead of this evening’s high-profile clash against title-contenders Kaizer Chiefs.
The 34-year-old, who has started the last two games for the Urban Warriors, is relishing his side’s showdown against the Soweto giants in what he expects to be an entertaining encounter at Athlone Stadium.
“A Kaizer Chiefs game is always a big game, regardless what your form is like in the league in build-up to playing against them – playing against them is always a great occasion and something I really enjoy,” he told his club’s website.
“When Kaizer Chiefs are doing well, everyone in the PSL, in fact, the whole South Africa is more interested, more fans come to watch. It is easy for Chiefs to attract a big audience, they can be off form the whole season, but just win a few games and all the fans are back.
“That whole atmosphere, for me as a player, is very exciting. At the end of the day – as I said – you as a player can be off form for the whole of the season, but if you do well against Kaizer Chiefs, for the next year – guaranteed – the public will know who you are.
“It will be a nice occasion and I will certainly enjoy myself if I play.”
Paulse, who is Ajax’s topscorer this season on four goals, has fond memories against the Glamour Boys, have netted the winner in the 2015 MTN8 final, but claims he did not cry after that goal despite many thinking otherwise.
“I have fond memories of scoring against Kaizer Chiefs,” he said. “I actually this week got asked if I was crying after the goal I scored [in the MTN8 final]…I said no, it was just the emotion in that split second that I got caught.
“It was a final, being back at Ajax for a year just gave me a greater sense of…I came back home and I’ve helped the club win a cup again after a long wait and that emotion just spilt out.
“I never cried, I was just overjoyed and thankful to God for that opportunity.”
Kick-off is set for 20:15.
