Gavin Hunt delighted with Ejike Uzoenyi Bidvest Wits debut

Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt was delighted with his new signing Ejike Uzoenyi's debut appearance against Baroka on Wednesday evening.

The 24-year-old Nigerian international joined Wits at the beginning of this month on a free transfer, after he received his clearance from Mamelodi Sundowns.

Uzoenyi came on as a second half substitute for Gabadinho Mhango and made an immediate impact as he scored the Clever Boys' fifth goal in their 5-0 rout of bottom-placed Bakgaga.

"Ja, he's quality. I like him. I think he's got something," said Hunt after the match. "He's got something, so let's see."

Hunt added that he is yet to figure out the best position for the versatile left-footer as they continue getting to know one another, but there's no doubting the player's ability.

"I don't know [his position]. He's a left-footed player, but I think he's intellegent enough to play in three different positions, so we'll see," added the veteran tactician.

"Things like that you only discover as you go on, so I need to learn about him; he needs to learn about me; he needs to learn about us. But so far, so good. At training he's been good."

Having made just one start in his three years at Chloorkop, Hunt says he is dumbfounded as to why The Brazilians released Uzoenyi but, nonetheless, was happy to take him in when the opportunity presented itself.

"I don't know, I don't know what's gone down there [at his previous club]. He dropped on our doorstep and I said let's have a look at him – we did – and I liked him from day one," he concluded.
