Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela is managing expectations around new signing Gustavo Paez.
The Venezuelan striker, who penned a two-and-a-half-year contract with Chiefs last month, is yet to score in three substitute outings for the log leaders.
Komphela has hinted the 26-year-old is due for a start soon, with Amakhosi next up against Ajax Cape Town on Saturday before their Soweto Derby showdown with Orlando Pirates.
Komphela said: "The only thing one can request for is to ask sport writers to be a little bit more objective, that he has been coming on as the sub. Because the article that'll come out reflecting the view that, 'but aren't they getting a little bit edgy and desperate?'
"Then we'll be sending a message of 'be desperate be edgy'. Maybe the person who must take the pressure is me, that they [fans] are so anxious awaiting [him] to start and he'll start.
"And surely the matches where he went in as the sub his contribution is clear. What'll happen when he plays the full match is completely going to be different from him going in as the sub for 20 minutes, 15 minutes... he'll get his time."
Komphela, however, is mindful of upsetting the momentum of a five-game winning streak.
He added: "Then again, it's very important to maintain some level of consistency and more especially results are coming.
"You can imagine, you forget that the team has been consistent from Golden Arrows, Polokwane City, Free State Stars, blah, blah... and then all of a sudden you want to topple the whole thing and change, it'll give you problems.
"To get the same stability, so you want to have a gradual and not drastic change. The quality he's [Paez] got, the passes... he'll receive time... he'll get."
