Orlando Pirates have appointed Swede Kjell Jonevret as their new head coach on a three-year deal and roped in Harold 'Jazzy Queen' Legodi to serve as his assistant.
Jonevret, 54, takes over the reins from Augusto Palacios, who was installed as caretaker boss in November last year after Muhsin Ertugral resigned in the wake of the club's then-record 6-1 defeat to SuperSport United.
“I’ll lie to you if I said I knew South African football fantastically well, but I have a few friends down here. I know [SuperSport coach] Stuart Baxter, especially when he was coach of Bafana Bafana,” said Jonevret, who has worked in his homeland and spent the past five years in Norway.
Africa Sport Youth Development Academy boss and ex-Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Legodi has replaced Bradley Carnell at Mayfair and will serve alongside Benson Mhlongo under Jonevret. Carnell has taken up a post abroad after spending half a season with the Sea Robbers following a spell with Free State Stars.
Bucs chairman Irvin Khoza announced the technical team changes at a press conference at Rand Stadium on Monday morning.
Pirates, who are 10th on the table with 20 points from 17 fixtures, next host Polokwane City at Orlando Stadium on Saturday.
