Buccaneers come back to halt City

Posted: 18 February 2017 Time: 19:31

Orlando Pirates struck deep into stoppage time to rescue a point in a pulsating 2-2 Absa Premiership draw against Cape Town City on Saturday night.

Dove Wome gave Pirates the lead in the 22nd minute, sweeping home after a neat cutback by Luvuyo Memela to stun the in-form Citizens and silence a sizeable home crowd.

However, hard-working midfielder Roland Putsche equalised on the hour-mark with a brilliant half-volley following Judas Moseamedi's knock-down in the area.

Moseamedi then dropped deep to set up influential captain Lebogang Manyama who made a run into the right side of the penalty area before unleashing a superb finish in off the underside of the crossbar to give Brighton Mhlongo no chance.

But there was late drama to come as substitute Riyaad Norodien – back in Cape Town again and with something to prove – picked up Mpho Makola's pass a long way out from goal, in the 93rd minute, and unleashed a sweet drive into the bottom-left corner and past Shu-Aib Walters to earn a draw.
