Wayne Arendse says Mamelodi Sundowns won’t be intimidated by their more illustrious opponents from the DR Congo, TP Mazembe in Saturday's lucrative CAF Super Cup clash.

The 32-year-year-old defender feels the contest at Loftus Stadium presents the Champions League winners with yet another opportunity to make history at the club against the defending champions.

Mazembe is one of the most successful teams in Africa, winning the Super Cup for a third time in 2016 to add to their five Champions League titles and sole Confederation Cup triumph.

“We shouldn’t fear them,” Arendse tells KickOff.com. “Nor should we be intimidated. We are aware of their success on the African continent, but we are the reigning African champs and we should play as that.

“What I’m saying is we must have the same desire and hunger we showed with our earlier success. The fact that we play in front of our home crowd will spur us on further as it did in the past. They’ve been fantastic come rain or shine. One thing is for sure it promises to be a good spectacle.

“And that’s the thing about playing on the big stage, it gives us yet another opportunity to make history at our club, for our chairman, technical staff and the fans.

“And it’s that hunger that drives us as a team as nothing is sweeter than success.”

Meanwhile, Arendse says he is still in talks with the club regarding a new contract at Chloorkop.

“Yes, one could say talks are in its final stages,” Arendse adds.
