A source close to the camp has told KickOff.com that Mahlangu has been Awol from training since last Thursday, which would explain his absence from the side that beat Golden Arrows on penalties in the Nedbank Cup on Saturday. This is not the first time Mahlangu has got up to his old tricks at Stars – after being substituted in the game against Bidvest Wits in February, the former Kaizer Chiefs hero left the stadium immediately and did not show up at training for two days. “The coach is fed up,” our source, a member of the technical team, says. “If it happened once, then fine … you can work it out. But this is the second time Jabu has gone Awol. With his contract coming to an end at the end of the season, it could jeopardise his chances of staying at the club. We were hoping to keep him, but now his future here is in doubt.” Mahlangu was looking to resurrect his career after failed spells at SuperSport United and Orlando Pirates. A successful stint at Swedish lower division side Osters IF won him a short-term contract at Stars, but whether that will now be extended remains to be seen.
