Orlando Pirates dealt Issa Sarr, Thabo Rakhale, Mpho Makola blows

Orlando Pirates have lost two more key players due to injury, ahead of their Absa Premiership fixture against Bidvest Wits tonight.

An ailing Bucs outfit are set to host the Clever Boys at the Orlando Stadium this evening, with news that wingers Thabo Rakhale and Thabo Qalinge have both been ruled out of the clash.

Rakhale is expected to be absent for the next two to three weeks with a hamstring strain, while Qalinge will undergo a scan later this week on a back strain.

Having been without the services of midfield anchorman Issa Sarr in their 6-0 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns on the weekend, the club have also confirmed that the Senegal international will again sit out this evening.

" can confirm that midfielder Issa Sarr will not be available for the Absa Premiership clash tonight as he still nurses the injury he suffered in the goalless draw with Platinum Stars last week," read a statement on their website.

"According to the Bucs medical team, the 30-year-old is currently undergoing rehabilitation and should return to full training sometime this week."

Some good news has come for number one goalkeeper Brighton Mhlongo, who was stretchered off against Platinum Stars, after scans revealed no significant damage to his knee. But he will not feature tonight due to a hamstring strain.

"A recent scan has allayed any fears of any serious ligament damage. The Bucs medical report reveals that Mhlongo strained his hamstring and that his knee showed no pathology," added the statement.

"Mhlongo is expected to undergo a final phase of rehabilitation and should resume full training if he passes."

Meanwhile, midfielders Gift Motupa, Mpho Makola and Edwin Gyimah are also doubtful to face Wits, and are set to undergo late fitness tests today.
