Keagan Buchanan sets eyes place in Kaizer Chiefs line-up, Bafana Bafana and World Cup squad

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Keagan Buchanan has spoken out about his ambitions for 2017 at club and international level.

Buchanan joined the Amakhosi at the start of the season from Bloemfontein Celtic, but has struggled to crack the nod from coach Steve Komphela thus far.

In the current Chiefs system, the Cape Town-born midfielder, who can play both an attacking and holding role, faces stiff competition from George Maluleka, Siphiwe Tshabalala, Willard Katsande and Lucky Baloyi.

The 24-year-old has had it tough in his first seven months at Naturena, managing only two starts since recovering from a serious knee injury in October.

However, he remains hopeful of making a bigger impact in the second half of the season, while setting his sights on winning some silverware with the Glamour Boys.

"Life [at Chiefs] is different because it’s a much bigger club, there is a lot more responsibility and pressure on and off the field," Buchanan recently admitted to PUMA.

"It has boosted my confidence to know that I can hold my own at such a huge stage. My level of professionalism and focus has also improved greatly.

"[My hope for this year is] to firstly cement my place in the starting line-up, [and] to win as many trophies as possible."

The SuperSport United academy graduate also revealed his ambitions of breaking into the Bafana Bafana setup as soon as possible as he dreams of featuring at the FIFA World Cup in Russia next year.

"[I hope] to break into the Bafana Bafana team," he added. "I have represented my country at all junior national teams and have gotten a Bafana call up before.

"I definitely strive to become a regular for Bafana leading up to World Cup year and beyond."
