Thapelo Morena praiseful of Mamelodi Sundowns win over Orlando Pirates

Posted: 12 February 2017 Time: 07:00

Mamelodi Sundowns full-back Thapelo Morena was all smiles following his brace against Orlando Pirates, as he picked up the man of the match award.

Sundowns romped to a 6-0 victory over Pirates, allowing them to keep within reach of leaders Cape Town City, SuperSport United and Bidvest Wits.

Morena welcomed the morale-boosting win and is excited that each victory slowly brings them closer to the front-runners in the league title chase.

"This really means a lot because we are still [a few] games behind, and we can see that the gap [on the log leaders] is not really that big," he told SuperSport TV after the match.

"So we're trying our best to get the maximum points every game."

Having netted a brace, the former junior international has relished his reward for the hard work he has been putting in on the training ground.

"It means a lot to me, because I've been playing as a right-back, and mostly they've been taking me to right-wing, so the moment I moved up I knew my responsibility," he added.

"It's [a big boost] to score two goals, because I've been working very hard on my finishing."

The 23-year-old also conceded that the scoreline was beyond his expectations, but was pleased that they converted their chances that fell for them.

"We just came out and said, 'gents, we have to do our best and we have to win this game,' so the goals came and we converted all our chances we created," he concluded.
